David Cage reveals length of upcoming narrative-focused game, says 75 percent of gamers finished Heavy Rain.

Tonight during a special in New York City, Quantic Dream head David Cage revealed the narrative-focused game will span ten hours of gameplay.

A thirty-five minute clip of the game#146;s #146;Homeless#146; level was shown, depicting main character Jodie Holmes--played by Juno actress Ellen Page--fighting for her life and to protect her friends.

Beyond: Two Souls launches exclusively on PlayStation 3. GameSpot will have more coverage of the event, including an interview with Quantic Dream co-CEO Guillaume de Fondaumière.

Cage also said tonight that 75 percent of players finished his last game, reported in 2011.

He said typically, just 20 percent of players see a game through to its completion. However, this figure was higher for Heavy Rain because of how its story unfolds.

#146;But for Heavy Rain for example--that was really story-driven--the figure was 75 percent,#146; Cage said. #146;And so because people wanted to see the end, they wanted to know what would happen next#146;all this was very important.#146;

Heavy Rain reportedly for Sony.

I don't know about you, but I'm not sold on the DualShock 4's awkward-looking touchpad. Fortunately, the guys over at Quantic Dream are a bit more creative than me, and clearly not as cynical.

All games are cultural expression, says Heavy Rain dev

Added: 22.04.2013 17:15 | 5 views | 0 comments

Quantic Dream co-CEO Guillaume de Fondaumiere says he sees no reason why games should be left out of games-as-art discussion.

, Quantic Dream co-CEO Guillaume de Fondaumiere said games should be considered in the conversation just like other recognized forms of art.

"To me, all games are a form of cultural expression," de Fondaumiere said. "I see no reason why games should be treated differently than any type of literature or any type of movie. I think that more and more video games are becoming artful, and are becoming a form of art that should be recognized next to the others."

To back up his claim, de Fondaumiere pointed to the growing number of "authors" in the industry today, including Rayman creator Michel Ancel, developer Jenova Chen, and others. At the end of the day, de Fondaumiere believes if games are widely recognized as art, the industry stands to grow.

"But does it really matter. Do we really care? Do we need to be formally recognized as art? I think it matters," he said. "I think this recognition also brings to a certain degree new business opportunities."

"Today I can say I'm a game producer. This sense of pride is important because we need to lure new people to this industry," he added. "I've been trying to work with Hollywood talent for years now, probably about 15 years. Up until recently, each time I was talking to agents or talents, they would say, 'We don't do games, sorry. You have to understand--violence, addiction--it's bad for our image.'"

Quantic Dream's next project, Beyond: Two Souls, launches exclusively for PlayStation 3.

Quantic Dream "very interested" in PS4 touchpad

Added: 22.04.2013 14:18 | 12 views | 0 comments

Quantic Dream, the do-it-differently developer of adult thrillers Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls, is "very interested" in the new DualShock 4 PlayStation 4 controller. Heavy Rain used a lot of gesture commands and quick-time events to make a new kind of adventure game experience people other than core gamers might enjoy. Quantic Dream even retro-fitted PlayStation Move controls after the game launched. Quantic Dream was one of the first studios in the world to receive PlayStation 4 dev kits, and has been working on an idea for a PS4 game since the middle of 2012. The DualShock 4 pad has Move's glowing motion-sensing ability built in, and it also comes with a touchpad - a style of control an ever-spreading audience now understands because of touch-screen iOS and Android gaming.

'Heavy Rain' proves AAA games can still take chances

Added: 21.04.2013 21:18 | 16 views | 0 comments

StickSkills said, "In a world where 3.4 million Tomb Raider copies sold is a number that falls short of a publishers expectations, its no wonder publishers are in fear of investing in these AAA titles. They are a business first a foremost and turning a profit is the only way to continue existing and publishing the games people want to play. Clearly, though, Quantic Dream presents a counter argument, saying that betting big can pay off in the end."

Heavy Rain Cost $21 Million To Develop, Was Extremely Profitable

Added: 19.04.2013 19:04 | 14 views | 0 comments

Heavy Rain might be unique, but that doesn't mean it can't make the same profit margins as the big boys.

During the Digital Dragons Festival, Quantic Dream co-CEO Guillaume de Fondaumiere uncovered Heavy Rain's budget and total revenue. He said:
Sony earned more than euro;100 million with this game. It's very profitable. He mentioned moments earlier that Heavy Rain costed in the realm of euro;16.7 million (around $21.9 million U.S. Dollars) to create. In today's video game industry that's not far from the average production cost. Heavy Rain's motion capturing and voice acting techniques were reasons behind the game's motion picture sized budget.
